The Red Panda Protector

FIELD TEST NO. 23

Jaubari, Nepal

Our journey took us to the easternmost part of Nepal, which shares its border with China, to meet Pema, a researcher at Kathmandu University who dedicates herself to her cause: protecting the red panda. She works closely with local communities to raise awareness and recreate a hospitable habitat for this endangered species.

Fay Archive - Field Test No. 23

The Fay Archive team spent two days in the rural village of Jaubari, situated at approx. 3500 metres above sea level, and one night in the freezing cold: the temperature dropped to a chilly -2°C in their unheated lodge.

“One of the most important aspects of my work is the focus on the environment: both flora and fauna.”

Plants essential for the red panda’s survival are grown in dedicated areas. Whilst the animals that share the same habitat are also taken care of.
