The Driller

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA

“I’m Erin Hogan and I was born and raised here in Alaska”. We meet Erin in Fairbanks, a town in the centre of the state. He takes us to the field where he’s working: he’s a driller, drilling the ground to collect magma samples to send to the laboratory in search of traces of gold. He isn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty, he’s passionate about it. Everything needed to reach the right depth to extract the material from the ground.

“This is a hard job, but I like it because it really defines your character.”

In his free time, Erin is a snow-boarder stunt man, while in his everyday life he experiences fatigue that strengthens the body and puts it to the test. “This is a hard job, but I like it because it really defines your character.” A job that always brings with it new challenges and demands a lot of determination during each new mission entrusted “[...] it depends on the area. Sometimes, if it’s too deep, we have to reduce the drilling in order to extract the material from the ground.”
