Iceland teaches us that there are many places in the world in which nature is in control and we can but learn to adapt. During our trip to Island, we have met many people along the way who live as one with the land and love to take care of it through their professions. People like Will, a volcanologist, who has transformed his passion into a profession by combining “the science, the outdoors and the adventure”.

We follow him as he ventures amongst the incandescent lava flows, “by studying the lava we can start to understand more about its characteristics and this is really important if we’re going to try and evacuate people from a village for example”. Especially as in this country, a major eruption typically occurs every 5 years. “There’s a saying here in Iceland that if you don’t like the weather you can just wait five minutes. However, that goes both ways, so you do have to be prepared for say mist coming in or a torrential downpour or a volcano erupting!”
