FIELD TEST NO. 23

Our journey took us to the easternmost part of Nepal, which shares its border with China, to meet Pema, a researcher at Kathmandu University who dedicates herself to her cause: protecting the red panda. She works closely with local communities to raise awareness and recreate a hospitable habitat for this endangered species.

FIELD TEST NO. 22

A pristine pasture and sacred lake-filled region, overlooking peaks and glaciers. In Nepal's Langtang Valley – a place hit hard by the 2015 earthquake, which sits at an altitude that will quite literally take your breath away – the Fay Archive team met up with Sherpas Sonam and Onghu. They were the first Field Testers to help us reach new heights.

THE NEPAL DIARY

A new destination for the Fay Archive Testers: six stops in Nepal to discover the lives and stories of workers in this extraordinary country. We met the following along the way: Sherpas Sonam and Onghu – the latter of which has scaled Everest an astounding five times; Dev Tamang, the bus driver who uses the world's deadliest mountain road; and Pema, a researcher at Kathmandu University who dedicates herself to her cause: protecting the red panda.

FLOATING ISLANDS

Manfredi Gioacchini’s lengthy journey to document Climate Change. The Roman photographer and artist has journeyed from Punta Arenas in Chile – through the immense Torres del Paine Natural Park in Chilean Patagonia – to reach the frozen continent.

FIELD TEST NO. 21

Our journey in Alaska ends in the snowy peaks with 38-year-old Alan, an avalanche risk expert. We gear up to follow him on an inspection of the peaks around Juneau.

Fay Archive

FIELD TEST NO. 20

Glacial temperatures and endless expanses of snow help to frame the life of our next tester. We’re in Barrow, at the northern tip of Alaska, where Eiben, an Iñupiat native and a polar bear guardian, lives.

Fay Archive

FIELD TEST NO. 19

N 60° 42.810627 - W 147° 4.10. Fay Archive’s expedition to Alaska continues in the Prince William Sound in the company of a new tester, Alexandra, the captain of a work boat. Meeting her becomes a moment to reflect on the tangible effects of climate change in the territories of the far north of the world.

FIELD TEST NO. 18

“I’m Erin Hogan and I was born and raised here in Alaska”. We meet Erin in Fairbanks, a town in the centre of the state. He takes us to the field where he’s working: he’s a driller, drilling the ground to collect magma samples to send to the laboratory in search of traces of gold.

The Alaskan Diaries - FIELD TEST No. 17

The relationship between humans, animals and nature is particularly significant in this part of the Earth. On a large farm at the heart of southern Alaska's immense plains, we meet Michael, a passionate breeder of the mighty, thick-coated musk oxen. "Probably, the most important thing on the farm is not necessarily what we do, but how we do it."

Archive goes skating

Skateboarding culture instantly evokes a world of freedom and creativity. Just like that of Luca Facchinetti, where individual and distinctive style meet to build the boards on which skaters give free rein to their passion.

FIELD TEST NO. 16

Our Chilean expedition leads us to the old lighthouse of San Isidro, the southernmost point of the Chilean mainland where, along the breathtaking Strait of Magellan, maritime archaeologist Nicolás Lira focuses his energies on trying to “understand our past to discover who we are today.”

FIELD TEST NO. 15

“Metal is like my very own modelling clay: its final form takes shape in my mind before the material has even become hot.” Seeing Pablo take a piece of raw metal and transform it into a knife using only his own brute force and heat is something truly quite extraordinary.

FIELD TEST NO. 14

“When you climb with a partner your life depends on him.” The foundations of Coni and Vito’s vertical life have been built on trust and adrenaline: this young Chilean couple have transformed their passion into a job, by teaching others how to defy gravity on the Andes.

FIELD TEST NO. 13

Working in one of the driest deserts on Earth - at an altitude in which even breathing is laboured - to study an iconic species that very few have been lucky enough to ever see. Nico’s determination and stamina serve as the perfect introduction to our Chilean adventure.

TESTED IN CHILE

Fay Archive is constantly looking for lone workers who put their heart and soul into their work, and are eager to provide us with a glimpse of their country’s truest and most unique offerings. Peruse the latest chapter, set amongst the extraordinary Chilean landscapes, and begin your own Field Test.

OFF-ROAD TEST

Strength, precision, dedication and skill. We headed off the beaten track to the passion-filled enduro and bespoke racing bike world to test the new Limited Edition Patchwork version of our iconic 4 Ganci model.

FIELD TEST #12

Iceland teaches us that there are many places in the world in which nature is in control and we can but learn to adapt. It is here that Will, a volcanologist, has transformed his passion into a profession by combining science with outdoor life and adventure. We accompany him as he studies the sheer force of nature amongst the incandescent lava flows.

FIELD TEST #11

“It’s just the purity and the clarity of the water... it’s like another world.” Extreme sports enthusiasts Heidar and Elli, let us accompany them on a dive that journeys between two continents.

FIELD TEST #10

“I never know when I go to the beach what is going to meet me. Sometimes I find nothing, sometimes quite a lot. I find it quite noble to work with driftwood because it has travelled for years in the ocean and the salt preserves it." And thus, the Fay Archive adventure continues to places where nature sets all the rules.

FIELD TEST #09

Fay Archive is angled by true passions, just like those that Erik holds dear for fly fishing and his land. We caught up with him at his typical workplace: the banks of Iceland's Blanda River.

CUT&SEW PROJECT

Inspiration, creativity and a sustainable idea. The 4 Ganci wears its original canvases in an exclusive limited edition version that conserves the long history of the brand among its stitching.

FIELD TEST #8

Every day, Lawrie sets out to explore the North Sea waters in the vicinity of Dunbar, in North East Scotland. His daily routine is set by the rhythm of the waves breaking on the “Tangaroa”, his main fishing boat. A blustery wind blows along these coasts in spring and summer and the temperatures can vary significantly.

FIELD TEST #7

In ancient Polynesian societies, surfing was interwoven with every aspect of daily life: family, work, religion… Today, it is a passion for the bold, for those unafraid of the wind and cold. Fay Archive sets off on a voyage of discovery of volcanic landscapes, big waves and breath-taking cliffs as seen through the eyes of Joey, the surfboard builder who analyses, designs and creates the perfect boards for the next free ride.

THE LAND OF THE SAMI

We set off on a journey to discover the Finnish Lapland, the land of Northern Lights, ice igloos and magical midnight suns. We chose the Arctic Circle for its famed icy temperatures, to meet reindeers and wolfs, sledging and the warmth of a red-hot glowing fire.

BLENDING WITH NATURE

Nestled in the heart of the Italian Alps, a stunning natural scenario opens up with snowcapped mountains, a vigorous body of water flowing through the valley and lots of trees to boost wildlife. The perfect environment to explore with Fay Archive and its iconic 4 Ganci.

FIELD TEST #6

Rikard Rietz is a young documentary filmmaker who splits his time between his city life and the vastness of nature. A free man who decides to respond to the ancestral call of the earth, devoting to the traditional work of his family: a small business of the highest quality dairy products. An ordinary life in the open spaces of the cold Swedish countryside, made of long days starting at the crack of dawn.

FIELD TEST #5

Fay Archive goes back to Gotland once again, in the cold northern European lands, to tell the story of a solitary man and his deep passion for hard work and to try out his jackets with a workwear soul. Rolf manufactures boats: in the small sheds of his yard the wood comes to life thanks to his handcraft, turning into something unique.

FIELD TEST #4

Once again Fay Archive sets out in search of faraway, extraordinary places to meet independent men, proud of the hard work they do with visceral passion, and to let them try out its jackets. The hidden island of Gotland thus becomes the evocative backdrop for the daily portraits of a herring fisherman.

FIELD TEST #3

Our "tests", based in the most remote places on the earth, continue. People who put their hearts and souls into their jobs, all while testing out the resilience of our jackets. Davide Monteleone reports. Andrei, a lumberjack, is the protagonist in this story.

FIELD TEST #2

Becoming a fisherman requires hard work, tenacity and determination. A continuous dialogue with the river with a view to revealing its secrets, as portrayed by artist and photojournalist Davide Monteleone among remote landscapes that magically come to life. Discover the Field Test.

FIELD TEST #1

An eternal story, in a land without a beginning or an end. Davide Monteleone's intense photography explores the concept of complicity in the noble relationship between man and horse, investigating the art of horse breeding made of commitment, passion, competence and dedication.

DESERT'S CALLING

Listen to the desert as it wakes, feel the heat rise from behind the dunes and watch as the dromedaries, dotted all around, break up the vast, open spaces. Can anyone resist the call of the desert?
